My Current 2 Product Beauty Routine
simple beauty routine, simple beauty routine skin care, quick skincare routine, on the go skincare, budget friendly skincare

I feel like learning about other people’s skincare routines is so interesting these days. Everyone has one, everyone talks about them, but honestly, it’s just so time consuming, not to mention expensive. Around 4 months ago, I decided I wanted to make my skincare simpler, so I literally just started to use up what I had and when I finished it, I didn’t re-purchase.

Instead, I invested in a great moisturizer and face wash that I use every single day. I will still use a face mask here and there when I feel my skin needs a little extra help and I’m sure I will start adding in a few products as time goes one, but for now I’m happy with my 2 products which I’ll share right now…

1: Face wash

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, $18

I’m not sure why people aren’t as obsessed with this product as me, but I’ve been using it for around 3 years now and it’s my constant go-to. I love that when applied dry to the face it can remove my mascara, but when water is added it takes away all of my face makeup and leaves my skin feeling very cleansed and glowy. It never irritates your eyes and never leaves your skin feeling dry. All in all it’s fab.

2: Face Moisturizer

Tata Harper Illuminating Moisturizer, $100

This brand is my absolute go-to right now. The moisturizer works so well to nourish the skin leaving it hydrated and the extra illuminating specs leave it glowing. Even though it’s on the slightly more expensive side, I really owe this product to the softness of my skin!

DIY: Coconut Body Scrub
DIY natural organic body scrub

I lovlies! Today I wanted to share a DIY that I have been loving lately. About a month ago I tried making this body scrub and have been addicted ever since. It’s pretty much the easiest DIY ever and you most likely have the ingredients already on hand. Plus, for the container, just use a glass jar from tomato sauce (remove the label to make it look cute).

I love having this ready in the bathroom for when I want to feel super clean and fresh. It’s also great to use before you apply fake tan, going on a beach trip, or just want to be super soft. So ready on below for the easiest DIY of your life.

Oh, and it smells AMAZING.

  • Coconut oil (at room temp - so it’s liquidy)

  • Granulated sugar (mine was brown, but it can be white too!)

  • Essential oils (optional)

  • Glass jar (Used a Rao’s tomato sauce jar)

  1. Pour around 1/2 cup of sugar into your jar.

  2. Add around 2-3 table spoons of coconut oil at room temperature. Add enough to where the mixture sticks together, but not so much that it becomes to much of a liquid. You want it to have some movement, but to still keep it’s form. (Think of the consistency of your favorite lip scrub!)

  3. Add 4-5 drops of your choice of essential oil (which is optional)! I chose lavender and am obsessed with how the smell turned out. If no essential oil is added, it will smell like coconut oil which is fab to.

It’s literally THAT easy! Share if you make some yourself below :)

Easy Nighttime Beauty Routine
nightime beauty routine.JPG

I feel like people are afraid of a beauty routine/skincare routine because there are SO many products and it’s so hard to choose which products are right for you. Plus a lot of beauty bloggers make it seem SO intimidating with their 10+ step routine.

It definitely doesn’t need to be that hard, and I don’t always use the same products, but I follow the same steps. I want to make it easy for you all to make your own beauty/skincare routine, so I’m going to breakdown my nighttime beauty routine! Video is on my IGTV.

Nighttime Beauty Routine

***Always wash face before skincare - I use Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser***

  1. Gisou Honey Hair Oil // You can’t forget about the hair!! I did a review on this hair oil awhile back and I am still loving it. It moisturizes my hair so much, smells amazing, and a little goes a long way. You want to moisturize your hair in some way after washing it so it doesn’t get too dry.

  2. Summer Friday’s Overtime Mask // A physical exfoliate is my first skincare step. This means that there are actual small chunks of sugar or a mineral that you rub on your face. If you have dry skin like me, you always want to be exfoliating the dead skin cells (ew!) off of your face so the skin stay smooth. I wouldn’t recommend using this mask everyday, but sticking to it 1-3 times a week. You can use any exfoliator, I also love this one from the drug store!

  3. Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Serum // So after exfoliating, I like to use this resurfacing serum. I use this almost everyday because I find that it makes your pores smaller and your skin SO soft. I can really tell a difference in how smooth my skin is when I use this serum. I also did a review on this here!

  4. Ole Hendricks Eye Cream // Next I always do an eye cream BEFORE my moisturizer. If you watch the video you see that I make circles around my eyes. Watch me carefully in my IGTV video because if you do it the same as me it will drain the under eyes to make them less puffy (learned this from Lauren over at The Skinny Confidential)

  5. Universal Emulsion // Last thing for your face is a moisturizer! I just use this to lock everything in. I love this one because it’s pretty light, but is really moisturizing. And whatever is left on my hands I like to use as hand lotion!

  6. Honest Chapstick // Last I love to use a good chapstick. My lips are always chapped, so I switch mine up on a regular basis!

There you go! It’s basically a 3 step skincare routine with a 4th step thrown in there. I swear by exfoliating my face, it’s what keeps it so clean and fresh looking. Plus drinking lots of water!

My Sephora Sale Picks & How to Purchase Smart

Sephora is having their sale right now! I want to share the mindset you should have about this sale (i.e. don’t buy just to buy), what I’m going to buy, and more of my favorite products!!

First what is the Sephora sale?

If you are a beauty insider, you can get 10% off your purchase! It’s free to sign up and doesn’t cost you anything, except your email address. If you already are a beauty insider, and are either Rogue or VIB, you get (respectively) 20% and 15% off!

Why is this sale so hyped?

Because usually beauty products NEVER go on sale. Or at leas the one’s that you want to go one sale never do. At least I think that’s why ever blogger ever talks about this sale.

BUT, if I were you, I wouldn’t go out and spend your life savings on a whole bunch of beauty product just because they are on sale & let me explain why...

You don’t want to buy just because something is on sale. It’s easy to start thinking “oh I need this, it’s $5 cheaper” or “but what if I want this later, I should just get it now, it’s on sale!”. Nope, that is just the marketing tactics working. It’s crazy right? They get you without you even realizing it!! Happens to me all the time and I’m not gonna let it happen this time.

The Sephora sale happens twice a year (so no need to get in a panic) and my purchasing philosophy is that you should get what you need & what you were about to go out and already purchase at full price.

Take for instance what I’m purchasing at the sale today.

First, a new moisturizer from Philosophy. I’ve been needing a new one for awhile but didn’t want to spend an absurd amount. I got this one in the Sephora play box in August & fell in love. AND extra bonus it’s only $25 for 4oz (which usually products come in 1oz containers)

I am also purchasing a new foundation, the Too Faced Born This Way foundation. I have used this so many times, but have never taken the plunge because it’s $40. And that’s a lot for me. But my foundation is about to run out at the same time as the sale is happening, so I’m going to have to buy a new foundation anyway, might as well get it on sale.

But, I’m not going to buy a million other things just because {wish I could thought, believe me}. I hope that it gives you a little guidance on how I navigate the sale!!

Some of my other favorite products I’ll list below if you want to give them a try. These are the makeup/skincare items that I use EVERYDAY of my life. I truly love & believe in them.

Jet Lag Mask / The New Step In Your Skincare Routine

To be honest, I didn’t purchase this beauty product for awhile. I was extremely skeptical of it because it was solely backed by influencers. When I mentioned it to my friends, none of them even knew what I was talking about. Which made me think it wasn’t as good as the Insta hype.

But I obviously couldn’t resist & took the plunge and bought the product myself. Want to know what a real person thinks about this mask? Keep on reading!!

The product you never knew you needed

So, does it work? The short answer is, yes, it does work!!!

It’s kind of like an eraser for your skin. It plumps and exfoliates your skin, so it looks and feels smooth and even toned. And even though it does have a light exfoliant, it doesn’t leave your skin dry at ALL. It actually is very moisturizing.

I don’t have any extreme problems with my skin, but I am never letting this product go. It’s the only mask I ever use anymore because it brightens, tightens, moisturizes, and smooths my skin all in ONE MASK!!! It’s crazy, you have to go try it.

The texture is also really nice and creamy and it is cooling on the face when you apply it.

Clean is in!

The company also is a “clean” company which is the same as other brands like Drunk Elephant, so this pairs really well with their products. I have definitely seen a major turn in my skin since changing to almost all “clean” skincare!

There are also awesome ingredients such as chestnut extract, vitamin c, niacinamidea, and green tea. These all help to exfoliate, brighten, even tone, and reduce puffiness. And with out other ingredients like paragons, sulfate, or synthetic dyes you are getting a more potent version of these ingredients!

Integrate into your routine

At first I was mildly confused how to integrate this into my skin routine (even though SF tries to explain it really well), but once I used the product and understood what it did, I use it almost daily.

Here are the ways that I currently use this product

Face mask while traveling - you can put on a thinner layer of this mask and it turns clear, so no-one will even know that you are wearing it! You will get off the plane/train with GLOWING skin

Everyday mask - I will try to use this around 2-3 times a week after I get out of the shower. It seriously makes my skin glowy and makes it so I barely have to wear makeup to work! You can leave it on for literally as LONG as you want and then wipe off

*You can also use this as an overnight mask, but please people, let me know how you sleep with this on??? I cannot for the life of me sleep on my back, so that’s my bad.

Makeup Primer - Okay, this one confused me for a second, but then I figured out that you have to wipe the mask off (lol) then put your makeup on. I apply and let sit for 10 minutes then wipe off with a wet warm towel. Then you can add your makeup right on top! I only really do this option though when I’m going somewhere special and want my makeup to look extra good!

Glossier Products Worth Buying Again

I would say that I'm pretty over the Glossier hype. I think they are a really great brand and make some amazing products (we will get to those!), but I'm not gonna buy everything they come out with anymore, ya know?

So, I'm here to give you my honest opinion on what products I have purchase that I think are really worth it. As a disclaimer, I want to say that I haven't tried all of their products, but I will list out what I have tried, so you can compare!

What I've tried:

  • Coconut

  • Birthday Cake

  • Milky Jelly Cleanser

  • Concealer

  • Moisturizing Primer

  • 3 Serums

  • Lip Gloss

  • Nail Polish

  • Eyeliner

  • Sunscreen

  • Mega Greens Galaxy Pack

  • Haloscope - Moonstone

  • Boy Brow

  • Generation G - Crush

Glossier Products Worth Buying Again

Glossier product review

# 1: Milky Jelly Cleanser

I honestly never thought I would be the person to spend $18 on a face wash, but I've purchased this face wash 5 times now... And I honestly have tried other face washes and haven't found one that compares at all to the Milky Jelly Cleanser. I'll explain (in detail) below:

  • IT DOESN'T HURT MY EYES - I swear, even when a face wash is "gentle" it still hurts my eyes when I try to get my mascara off and it's so uncomfortable that I hate it and don't wash my face

  • It does take off all your make-up. Unlike other gentel cleansers (cough cough, Cetaphil), this is gentle but strong. I apply the cleanser to a dry face and rub it around and over my mascara for 20 seconds, then add a little water and all the make-up melts off

  • It changes the texture of your face to be firmer in a way. I'm not sure if it's because it firms your skin or cleans it so well, but I love it!

  • It doesn't dry out your skin or give you that weird tightened feeling

#2 - Coconut

OH man, I love this stuff. I just finished my first tube of it last week and re-ordered it again. I've had that first tube for 2 YEARS!!! Longer than I've been dating my boyfriend (ha!)

Keeping track of that little tube for 2 years, shows how much I love the product. Details are below:

  • Extra extra extra moisutre

  • Smells like a summer day

  • Is thick enough that you don't need to constantly re-apply, but isn't sticky

#3: Invisible Shield Sunscreen

I just got this product, but I can already tell it is going to be a summer staple! I mean I never thought I would have high expectations for a sunscreen until now. I apply this product after my Vitamin C serum and face moisturizer in the morning. Then apply makeup! Why do I love it? See below:

  • It's completely invisible, so you can't even tell that it's on.

  • It's useful for when you have a foundation that doesn't have SPF

  • Smells amazing

  • Not oily

  • Overall, you can't tell that you even put it on, so that is a win in my book!

How To: Get More For Your Money At Sephora

Ahhh, Sephora. Potentially on Target's level of places I love and hate at the same time.

The problem with Sephora is I want everything, so it's hard to choose ONE thing. Unless you want to spend hundreds dollars. You know what I mean?

Although, I have learned a few tips/tricks and hacks I like to use to spend less or get more for the money you are spending, so stay tuned for how I get more for my money at Sephora.

Tip 1: Be a Beauty Insider

First, this takes around 3 seconds to sign up for. You just need to give them your email and you can start earning points! Second, it’s like most rewards programs where you earn points based off of how much you spend. And there are 3 levels of benefits based on how much you spend a year. Now, I’ll break the the benefits for y’all so you can see for yourself!

  1. Twice a year they have sales. You’ll get either 10-15% based off of what level you are of a beauty insider. However, I wouldn’t encourage you to just buy things because they are on sale (that’s when Sephora wins), but to buy things only if you know you need them For example, if your favorite foundation is running out, you’re gonna buy it anyway, so might as well get it on sale!

  2. When you reach different levels you get different benefits. The VIB level is pretty easy to hit in my opinion and you can get a free birthday gift and pay $20 for year round 2-day free shipping. That totally saves on shipping costs and gives you a free gift!

  3. What do the points give you? Well, you can get free sample size products with your points. Not like the samples in the little flat packaging, but real samples that have a decent amount of product. I’ve gotten a Becca highlighter, taste highlighter drops, etc. (I’ll include a screen shot of the current 100 pt ones). If you save up your points, then you can go for the 500 pt bundles which are so good.

Sephora Hacks

Tip #2: Free Gifts With Purchase

I use this website and they always have EVERY code you could ever apply to your order. And there are some pretty good ones! Never order something on Sephora without checking this place first cause you can get more free stuff with your oder.

Sephora Hacks

Tip #3: Ask For Free Samples

Now these aren’t as good as the 100pt samples that you can get from points, but if you go in the store you can ask them for a sample of pretty much anything. They put it in a little plastic container and table it, so you remember what you brought home.

I’ve done this with Drunk Elephant’s eye serum and it’s lasted me weeks! Also it’s useful if you want to try out a new foundation to make sure it matches you.

Sephora Hacks

Tip #4: The Mini Isle

Now, there are two sides to this subject, but in my opinion, I think mini sizes are a good thing. Yes, you care paying more per ounce technically, but in the long run you may be saving money. Just don't impulse buy them at check out, and you're good!

If you try a mini size and end up not liking a $60 moisturizer, then you are effectively saving $45 dollars because you didn’t spend money on something you didn’t like

Also, for things like highlighters where I know I won’t use the entire pan, I like to get from the mini section. I have a Becca highlighter from the mini section that I’ve used so much, but have barely made a dent. Why spend so much more when I’ll never use it all?

Hope this helps you be a savvy Sephora shopper!

Beach Beauty Chic

OKAY! Today we are talking about everything that’s in my beach bag! I might seem a little extra, but sometimes that’s necessary, right?? Somehow I’ve managed to go to the beach twice this year (idk how), so I’m feeling pretty confident in what I brought to Miami with me :)

Also, I have notes about each of these products that I will talk about below (i.e. why I bring them). Some things aren’t pictures, not everything is cute (lol), but I will talk about them below!!

What’s in my bag?

beach beauty bag essentials
  1. Wet Brush - I would really be not happy if I was on the beach/pool without a brush. I think that, sunscreen, and water are my top 3 things I need. I hate not being able to run my fingers through my hair, plus the wind on the beach is just seriously not my hair’s friend. I have this cute little wet brush from Dry Bar, but you can buy one from target for like $6. Plus, doesn’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase

  2. Hair Detangler - With the salt and wind, you might need a little extra help getting those knots out

  3. Head band - Love this for the beach. It’s always so humid on the beach and I get the worst fly aways and curly hair, so I just this to smooth everything out. So easy

beach beauty bag essentials

  1. Face sunscreen - DUH. If you aren’t using face sunscreen, then you just have to right now. I like this Origins one because it does. not. Budge. It stays on your face amazingly, so you don’t get burnt

  2. Sunscreen mist - Just if you want to touch up your sunscreen or if you are wearing makeup to the beach and don’t want to ruin it, but still want to re-apply

  3. Face mist - This is sooo useful and I didn’t realize how much until this trip to Miami. The water there is very salty, so when you get out of the water you have a salt film over your body. I spray the face mist over my face, then wipe the salt off with my towel.

  4. Vitamin C Serum / B hydra - I like this to hydrate my face after the water. I bring both of these, but really you could just bring one. It’s nice to add moisture back to your face after being in the salt water (then do serums and sunscreen)

  5. Chapstick - Bring one with SPF always. No-one wants burnt and chapped lips. EW

beach beauty bag essentials
  1. Body sunscreen - For obvious reasons

  2. Perfume - I looove to attach a scent to a perfume and bringing a perfume you love to the beach and spraying it while you are relaxed and happy with create a scent association. So, next time you spray the perfume…you think about laying on a beach <3 I'm also obsessed with this perfume, it smells like summer.

beach beauty bag essentials
  1. Book - Gotta have something to read and keep yourself entertained

  2. Phone - You gotta bring it, but I try to keep my phone usage to a minimum.

  3. Sunglasses & Hat

Honest Drunk Elephant Review
Drunk Elephant Comprehensive Review

Okay, you voted and I delivered! 1 ENTIRE month of literally just using Drunk Elephant products. (Okay, I used micellar water and lavender mist, but that's all!)

I’d say my fave part was that the products were designed to be mixed together. Which just makes everything soooo easy. I also love how everything is laid out for you, so you literally can just color code your skin routine, like YES sign me up.

I also want to talk about product reviews for a hot sec.

Everyone has A) completely different skin and B) likes different factors in the products they use. So I am going to try to give you my overall thoughts, but also describe the feeling of each product, so you can see if you will like it too!

My skin type.

Let’s first start with what skin type I am. I have dry-combination skin. So,  I have very dry skin, especially under my eyes, but get oily around my nose area and chin. And I probably get around 1-2 pimples a month.

Okay, so, the short version:

If there’s one product I would choose…

It would be the “pink one”. This stuff is seriously magical. It’s described as “resurfacing” and man, does it make your skin the softest its ever been. If there’s one thing you try from Drunk elephant, this is it! I will be purchasing this in it’s full size version.

Drunk Elephant Product Reviews
Drunk Elephant Product Review

Okay now for the looooong version:

An in-depth rant of my thoughts on each of these products and who I would recommend them to. I’m going to start from my favorite down to my least favorite. Ready?

T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

As I said above, this stuff is magic. I thought my face was soft before, like so soft that I would make people touch my face. And this made it SOFTER?!?! How?  If there is one thing I am for-sure re-purchasing in it’s full size, it’s this product. It’s genuinely worth the money.  I notice a difference 100% in my skin if I don’t use this product for 2 days.  Plus my make-up goes on so much better and is way more even. Its also a gel consistency which I looove so much.

Who I would recommend this to? If you have textured skin that feels rough and the work re texture sounds appealing to you, I would recommend trying out this product. I notice a difference 100% in my skin if I don’t use this product for 2 days.

B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel

I’m oddly obsessed with this product. I like to mix this in with my other serums/oils since it adds a serious boost of hydration. I’m also obsessed with this for hotter days as a light weight moisturizer. I’m also very excited to have this product with me by the pool/beach because it really sinks into your skin fast and doesn’t feel sticky at all. It is also a gel consistency and goes on so smooth.

Who I would recommend this to? If you have dry skin, this would be great to add into you routine day, night, or both. It’s so easily integrated! I’m definitely re-purchasing this once my mini runs out!  For dry skin though, I wouldn’t use this as a daily moisturizer, I would treat this as a serum. I also think this would be AMAZING if you have oily skin or acne prone skin. I’m not an expert in this area, but I can imagine how terrible it would feel to put an oily moisturizer on your face when it already feels oily. This is a gel consistency, so it will add tons of moisture, but not feel oily. Which sounds ideal right?

Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil

I’m obsessed with this stuff. I’ve been trying out a little at home face massages to help with my under eye circles and this product has been key in that. It is a very moisturizing oil, but it sinks into the skin SO well, especially mixed with the T.L.C. night serum. I have also noticed that the oiliness around my nose has really decreased and I think it is because of this product and the moisture it brings to my face. I will definitely continue using this oil for when I feel like my skin needs a seriously hydration kick.

Who I would recommend this to? If you have dry flakey skin (or just dry skin) I would 100% recommend this to you. This will kick those dry patches right in the butt and really regulate your face’s natural oils. Also for people who like oils! If you are oil-adverse, then this product is not for you.

Lala Retro Whipped Cream

Okay this moisturizer is insanely moisturizing. I literally use the smallest amount and feel fully hydrated. It does feel more like a heavy duty creme though, so if you have oily skin, I would definitely recommend trying this out first before purchasing the whole thing. But for you dry skinned people, this is the perfect winter moisturizer. I don’t think I will be using this during the summer months though, it feels weird when you put it on your face after showering and you’re really hot, so I’ll have to see how this works out in the summer. Or maybe just use it at night!

Who I would recommend this to? Dry skin people (have I said that 100 times yet??). I mean it’s true though, this really really is a great daily moisturizer for the winter if you have dry skin. Also, someone who likes a thicker creme for their face and doesn’t mind that it takes a second or two to sink in.

C-Firma Day Serum

I know this product has a serious cult following, but I just don’t really see why. But, I also think it’s personal preference (as any skin care product is). I just think it’s really watery and more oily that serum-y and I’d rather have mine be more like a serum. So, if you like the more watery consistency, then I think you will like this product. I also didn’t really notice this product brightening my face or anything, but again, that’s my personal experience. Really, I don’t have anything against this product, I just am not that enthusiastic about it.

Who I would recommend this to? Someone who likes a more watery serum consistency and a way to add moisture and brightening to the face!

Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser

This is the same as the C-Firma, I don’t hate it, but I’m not particularly obsessed with this. I have another face wash where I like the consistency a lot more and that takes my make-up off a lot more. I do have to say though that this is one of the better face washes I have tried. It’s scent free, doesn’t foam, doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry, and doesn’t sting your eyes (which is key). It also does take off a majority of your make-up, but I found it hard to get my mascara off.

Who I would recommend this to? Someone who wants a gentle face cleanse that doesn’t leave their skin dry. This would be great if you double cleanse and wanted to use this as your water base cleanse.

If you have specific questions, leave a comment below and I will answer. Or you can DM or comment on my pic of the products!

Get the Softest Lips for VDay

I don't know about you ladies, but I always have chapped lips. I drank enough water, I mixed up my chapsticks, but nothing seemed to work. I would love to say that I've found the cure to chapped lips all the time, but unfortunately I have not. I have, however, found a way to make them soft for around a day. Want to know my secret to the softest lips for your Valentine's day (or just life in general, since chapped lips are the worst!) then follow the steps below.

Products to get the softest lips

Step 1:

Take a really long hot shower. This will soften up the dead skin (ew!!!) on your lips. And make the next couple steps easier.

Step 2:

This is the most important step. Take a face towel that you maybe have washed one too many times and is a little rough and scrub your lips with it. Make sure the towel is dry, since that will help clear away the dead skin. After this step you should feel like your lips are pretty soft.

Step 3:

Now, take a lip scrub, this one from Lush tastes so yummy and works, and also scrub that all over your lips. Really polishing them.

Step 4:

Apply your favorite chapstick. Like I mentioned before, I like to switch mine up a lot since you don't want your lips to be addicted to one certain type.

Below are some of my favorite products! Check them out :)

Sephora Play Subscription Box Unboxing: Jan 2018

Happy Wednesday everyone! Me again with an unboxing of my Sephora Play Box for January 2018. This box was focused on "The YOU Year". I'm so pleased with what I received in this month's box and am in-love with the mini sugar lip therapy, it's so cute and tiny!! I was really thinking of buying stuff from Sephora this week, but I swear this box makes me not want anything anymore because I have 5 new products to try.

If you ever wonder if you get "good products" or if its worth purchasing a beauty subscription box, my advice is YES! First, it's $10.89. Second, it stops you from buying full price products that you end up never using (money saver!). Plus, you always get some sort of lip color, which I love throwing in my purse (instead of the full size version). I love Sephora's as well because you always get well know brands and good lip colors!

I will list all the products down below :)
