Taking Lessons From Vacation To Real Life

life lessons for women, real life quotes, real life truths, real talk quotes lessons learned, lessons learned in life,

Ugh, don’t we all love vacation? It’s a time to unplug, relax, and not have a worry in the world. Somehow life is always just better while on vacation. After being in Italy for the past week, I felt like I hit re-set on my mindset and learned a few things that I wanted to bring back to my everyday life. So, here’s a post on what I learned and how to implement it into your day-to-day.

Be bored:

In today’s society, being busy is a status symbol. It signals how important you are and if you are successful enough. On vacation, you are the opposite of busy… At first I had no idea what to do with myself, I was so fidgety while laying at the beach. Then slowly I just learned to be still, be bored.

How to implement into real life:

Setting aside once a week to spend 1-2 hours with friends, family, or your bf/gf to just talk, look out the window, drink a glass of wine, etc. No screens, no agenda. Just soak in what is happening around you and be present in the moment.

You can’t plan everything:

Italians basically don’t plan or worry about anything. They have a more laissez faire attitude about pretty much everything, which is the exact opposite of Americans. Yet, in the end everything always works out okay and life keeps moving. I think giving up a little control over everything could give us all a little sanity back.

How to implement into real life:

Anytime you start having time anxiety, feel like not everything will get done, etc remember that it’s not life or death. Everything will be okay in the end. You will make the train, that assignment will get done, and everything will come out in the wash.

Read More:

While IG, Youtube, and FB are all amazing for keeping in touch with people and getting inspiration, there’s nothing like reading a good book. I feel like I haven’t really gotten into a book in a loooong time, but in Capri I started reading Jackie, Janet, and Lee and I was obsessed. Reading it all the time, and it reminded me how much reading brings you into another world, kind of like a form of meditation.

How to implement into real life:

Even though I can’t read as much as on vacation, I still am going to try to read some of my book every night before going to bed. It’s a great way to not look at electronics, but still have a way to wind down.

I’d love to know what you bring back from vacation and implement into your everyday life. Comment below :)

Travel Diary: Rome & Sorrento, Italy

IMG_2568.JPG

Hi friends! I wanted to make a travel diary post half to share and selfishly, half to make sure I remembered everything that happened.

So here’s my trip so far from the beginning..

Day 1:

After a long and fairly terrible plane ride (think late take off, barely able to sleep, and a crying baby) I landed in Rome! I couldn’t wait to get to our Airbnb and share where I had lived for a semester with Mike.

After dropping off our things at the Airbnb, we went to explore the city. It was so weird to start walking and remember where I was. We started off by walking to the Pantheon, one of my favorite monuments in Rome. (I was almost not allowed to go in, because my outfit was too revealing). It is so much larger and grand in person than you would expect and the inside is just so detailed.

Next we walked to the Trevi Fountain and then the Colosseum. At this point I was so tired (jet lag is real) and the sun was so hot that I was really struggling and wanted to make sure we got a table at my favorite restaurant in the world. So, we took an Uber to our dinner spot.

Da Enzo, my favorite restaurant, is located in Trastevere which is on the opposite side of the Tiber river. It’s a little more of a quaint area and I love how you can just get lost in the streets. We arrived at the restaurant, which can be easy to miss due to how unassuming it is, and at 6:45pm there was already a couple waiting in line. By the time 7:30 hit — a.k.a. when the restaurant actually opens — the line was around the corner, so I was very happy we got there early. We sat down and I didn’t even need to look at the menu, I already knew what to order: Fresh burrata, gricia, carbonara, bread, olive oil, and house red wine. Seriously the best food in the world and to finish it all off, their tiramisu which is to die for. We walked back to our Airbnb and it was just amazing to be back in such a beautiful city.

Day 2:

We went to Trastevere again, had breakfast at Bylon Coffee shop (order a cappuccino and chocolate croissant) and walked around all the small streets. I highly recommend doing this as it really makes you feel like you are in a magical place / like you are experiencing what it’s like to actually live there.

Then we took the train to Sorrento where we stayed in a lovely Airbnb right on the water in Marina Grande. We explored town (which means walking a million steps) and sat in the middle of the square at Bar Ercolano to watch the chaos that is all of the tourists walking around.

After dinner at Ristorante Zi Ntonio we went back down to the marina and watched the amazing sunset. It was fiery red and SO bright and huge. Once it went dark, fireworks were set off which was a perfect ending to the night! The next day however we were woken up at 4:45 to bells and then fireworks that kept going on and off for hours.

Day 3:

After sipping coffee and eating a croissant by the water — v Italian of me — we made our way to Marina Picolla to take the ferry over to Capri. Which sounds easy, but with a suitcase, stairs, and a burning hot sun it was horrible lol. After waiting around for the ferry we took the 25 min ride to Capri!

I’ll leave off here…but Capri is amazing. I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

My Top 6 South Beach Restaurants

Header-Image.jpg

I think by it’s probably clear to everyone how much Mike and I love going to Miami -- re: millions of pics from there every time we visit. For thrill-seekers it may not be the most adventurous vacation to go on, but if you’re looking to be the most relaxed you have ever been this is the vacation for you.

Just picture laying on the beach listening to the waves crash all day long while a waiter brings blueberry pancakes yo your lounge chair.

Besides laying out all day one of our favorite things to do in Miami is go out to dinner (can you tell food is always on my mind?). We’ve discovered some amazing spots ranging in both price customer experience. So, I wanted to round up some of my favorites for you to try next time you visit!

Cecconi’s

$$$

Vibe:

Located in the Soho Beach House, Cecconi’s is very romantic with rustic wood beam ceilings, overgrown (in the best way) plants, and tons of glowy candlelight. It’s perfect for a date night, but can also be so fun with a larger group! The service is great and I love how warm and cozy the atmosphere is.

Food:

The food here is Italian and SO good. Mike and I decided to split a pizza and pasta dish, which was the best of both worlds. We also split a bottle of wine which I highly recommend.

Havana 1957, Espanola Way

$$

Vibe:

This restaurant is right on Espanola Way which is the cutest street (and where the picture is from). The atmosphere here is very relaxed and authentic. Think kind of like a Cuban dive bar, but the food is to die for.

Food:

The food here is Cuban! We wanted to try out something we’ve never had before and the food here was amazing. Even though we ordered a simple main dish of rice, beans, and chicken, something about it tasted so unique and delicious. Also, pro-tip, if you get a large appetizer here, split one of the main entrees with someone else! It’s so much food that you’ll never eat it all.

Azabu

$$$$

Vibe:

As a Michelin Star restaurant, you should come looking a little nicer than if you were going to most other restaurants (think dress not ripped jeans). Miami is pretty relaxed when it comes to what you wear, but it’s nice to be a little dressier at places like this. For being a Michelin Star, it’s not too fancy and the menu isn’t complicated, so don’t be intimidated.

Food:

They serve one of my favorite foods here, sushi! I have found that the sushi in Miami is some of the best i’ve tried because the fish is so fresh! If you decide to visit Azabu I highly recommend the salmon sushi. It’s is out of the world and a meal that I will never forget.

Blue Ribbon Sushi

$$$

Vibe:

Here you can be super relaxed while still having great food. Don’t worry about wearing jeans here, it’s fairly casual with a super friendly staff and great environment.

Food:

Blue Ribbon is known not only for their sushi, but also for their fried chicken! When eating here obviously order sushi, but for an appetizer think about getting their chicken wings, they are so good and different than most wings.

Prime 112 (any of them)

$$$

Vibe:

Prime 112 is a steakhouse, so think that kinda vibe. White table cloths (that you’ll probably get dirty), low lighting, and a little loud. This is a good place for a larger group, not the most ideal date night spot since it’s not very intimate.

Food:

The food here is soo yummy. They have a killer tuna tartar, and great steak and fish options. If you come before your reservation, get a drink at the bar because instead of bar nuts they have glasses of freshly made bacon.

Mr. Chow

$$$

Vibe:

Mr. Chow is nothing but fancy. They have crisp white table cloths and a wait staff that works in a 3 man team. Yeah, I didn’t know what that was either until Mike explained it to me. Basically, it means there is one waiter running the show and the other two to do specific jobs like take your order, pour you water, etc. It’s really the height of luxury. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to see one of the men create the famous Mr. Chow noodles by hand, it’s amazing!

Food:

Mr. Chow is a famous Chinese restaurant all over the world with this one being located in the W Hotel. It has a more family style menu where guests can share plates with a group, so it’s ideal for a larger table. If you are going just the two of you, I would try getting a few appetizers and then splitting an entree. Don’t be afraid to branch out and try new things here! I scallion pancakes.

Beach Beauty Chic

OKAY! Today we are talking about everything that’s in my beach bag! I might seem a little extra, but sometimes that’s necessary, right?? Somehow I’ve managed to go to the beach twice this year (idk how), so I’m feeling pretty confident in what I brought to Miami with me :)

Also, I have notes about each of these products that I will talk about below (i.e. why I bring them). Some things aren’t pictures, not everything is cute (lol), but I will talk about them below!!

What’s in my bag?

HAIR

beach beauty bag essentials
  1. Wet Brush - I would really be not happy if I was on the beach/pool without a brush. I think that, sunscreen, and water are my top 3 things I need. I hate not being able to run my fingers through my hair, plus the wind on the beach is just seriously not my hair’s friend. I have this cute little wet brush from Dry Bar, but you can buy one from target for like $6. Plus, doesn’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase

  2. Hair Detangler - With the salt and wind, you might need a little extra help getting those knots out

  3. Head band - Love this for the beach. It’s always so humid on the beach and I get the worst fly aways and curly hair, so I just this to smooth everything out. So easy

Face

beach beauty bag essentials
beach beauty essentials
  1. Face sunscreen - DUH. If you aren’t using face sunscreen, then you just have to right now. I like this Origins one because it does. not. Budge. It stays on your face amazingly, so you don’t get burnt

  2. Sunscreen mist - Just if you want to touch up your sunscreen or if you are wearing makeup to the beach and don’t want to ruin it, but still want to re-apply

  3. Face mist - This is sooo useful and I didn’t realize how much until this trip to Miami. The water there is very salty, so when you get out of the water you have a salt film over your body. I spray the face mist over my face, then wipe the salt off with my towel.

  4. Vitamin C Serum / B hydra - I like this to hydrate my face after the water. I bring both of these, but really you could just bring one. It’s nice to add moisture back to your face after being in the salt water (then do serums and sunscreen)

  5. Chapstick - Bring one with SPF always. No-one wants burnt and chapped lips. EW

Body

beach beauty bag essentials
  1. Body sunscreen - For obvious reasons

  2. Perfume - I looove to attach a scent to a perfume and bringing a perfume you love to the beach and spraying it while you are relaxed and happy with create a scent association. So, next time you spray the perfume…you think about laying on a beach <3 I'm also obsessed with this perfume, it smells like summer.

MISC

beach beauty bag essentials
  1. Book - Gotta have something to read and keep yourself entertained

  2. Phone - You gotta bring it, but I try to keep my phone usage to a minimum.

  3. Sunglasses & Hat

Why Traveling Helps Me Stay Motivated // Bucerías Photo Diary

Cute house (one of hundreds) on the small side streets of the town.

Cute house (one of hundreds) on the small side streets of the town.

If you've been following along on Instagram, you know I've been in Mexico this past week!

I was such a great trip full of family time, laying by the pool, and really just doing NOTHING. Which felt absolutely amazing. We went on many adventures (pics below!!), so I hope to be able to share more pictures from the other towns we visited. But, enough about me... let's get to the post.

Today I wanted to talk about MOTIVATION, since it is something I think makes it so hard to start a business in today's world. Staying motivated in the midst of comparing yourself (I know you aren't supposed to, but I mean c'mon that's impossible) to other Instagrammers, Youtubers, 20 year old millionaires, etc can be so detrimental to your motivation to get out there and start your one-man shop.

And to be honest, this happens to me all of the time. Some days I really don't feel like posting and I definitely don't feel motivated, but after coming back from Mexico though I feel SO MOTIVATED. Motivated to write my posts, take pictures, and do the other stuff I kinda don't like about blogging like...hashtags. Now let's get to the juicy stuff, like why.

One of the only unique shops I saw (hopefully!!) with the coolest glassware. That's something Mexico does really well, COLOR!

Traveling Gives You Perspective

When you detach yourself from the current world you created for yourself you really see why you started and why you want to continue. You forget about likes and followers and focus on the why of your business. It also gives you actual time to think of new content ideas since your brain doesn't feel any pressure to come up with something amazing.

Really it just gives you a break from the real life which allows your creativity to flow and for you to focus on what is really important to you and your business.

Easy Spring Outfit Idea
IMG_4478.JPG
IMG_4479.JPG

Hola from Mexico! Today we took a stroll through Bucerias, the town next to where we are staying. I have so many fun pictures to share from our stroll through town, but first wanted to show you my easy go-to spring outfit and this little corner right off the beach.

My shorts are Free People and I think they have the best summer shorts. They're a little loose around the waist and legs, but are still flattering on the body. I just throw on this simple tank from Madewell, put a little tick in it to show my waist, and there you go, a pulled-together look that takes 5 seconds. I'm also obsessed with these sunglasses my sister bought at Marshalls. They're Nine West brand, so keep your eyes peeled!!

This little nook of Bucerias was so unique. The walls are all hand painted flowers and the writing is the prettiest type! I mean how talented is the artist who did this? The flowers look so life-like and the text is such a beautiful script font. Excited to share more photos from my trip, I'm here for almost a week, so get ready for a lot more of this!

How To Make The Airport Less Stressful
What's in my airport bag

Is it me or does the airport just seem like the worst. Don't get me wrong, I love to travel, but the airport has just always been a source of chaos for me. So, for my trip to Mexico I was determined to make the airport/airplane feel like home. In today's post I want to share some things I put in my carry-on purse that made me feel comfortable while in at the airport...at 6AM *yawn*

First, I'm really into mint tea and lemon water, I feel like it calms me and makes me feel at home, so I drank both of these in the airport and on the plane! It also helps with stomach aches which I seem to get a lot while flying.

Next, I love bringing lavender scented anything. This includes sanitation wipes for the airplane seat, hand sanitizer, and face mist. Lavender is a very calming scent and makes any situation a little less stressful, plus how cute are these little towelettes :) AND after you wipe down your seat, you're enveloped in a scent of lavender.

Then I always have my ticket/reservation printed and my liquids all in one place. These two might seem random, but it's just 2 more things I don't have to think about going wrong.

Finally, my Bose noise cancelling headphones....they are potentially the greatest thing you can bring on a plane. Baby screaming? Who cares. Loud jet noises? Can't hear 'em. It's pretty awesome to just put these on and read your book and the next thing you know you're at your next destination.

I made some nice friends on my second flight though, shoutout to them for making 4 hours feel like 1!

The Comfiest Airport Outfit
Comfortable Airport Outfit

Today's post is about what to wear on your spring break flight (or any flight)! I found this sweatshirt on one of my favorite Youtuber's online boutique called Good To Be and I am obsessed with this sweatshirt (I'm so sorry it's sold out already, but I found really similar options and the same one in blue!). It is THE SOFTEST sweatshirt ever and I feel like the fur elevates a leggings and sneaker look for your flight. I recommend wearing a tank underneath incase you get hot and want to take off your sweatshirt. Mine was $5 at a Madewell sale!

Also, I love to wear Vans slides to the airport because they are super comfy, work in cold/warm weather, and are the easiest shoes to get on/off for going through security. You don't even need to break them in, I've never once had a blister from my grey pair (not pictured) and they are so cute! If it's below 60 degrees where you are leaving from, I recommend wearing a lighter jacket like this one, so when you come back from vacation you aren't freezing! See below for full outfit details!

How To Pack For Spring Break

Its almost officially spring, which calls for sun and sand! Even though I don't have an official spring break anymore, I'm pretending like I do and going with my family to Mexico for the duration of my little sis's college spring break.

I definitely have packing light down to a science, so I want to share my tips and trick with you all! I hate paying those extra baggage fees only to end up realizing I wore half the clothes I packed (I'm sure you do too). I'm also including a free printable packing list, so you don't forget anything for your special trip! See below :)

How To Pack For Spring Break
How To Pack For Spring Break
How To Pack For Spring Break
How To Pack For Spring Break
How To Pack For Spring Break
How To Pack For Spring Break

Tip #1 - Travel Sizes

For all of your toiletries pack travel sizes. When you leave the country your liquids should be able to fit into a quart size bag, so this is essential, if you want to get on the plane. But, it also saves you so much space because you aren't wasting it with 5oz of shampoo you won't use. Pro Tip: Make sure all your carry-on liquids are in one bag, so if they need you to take them out of your suitcase, it doesn't hold up the entire security line.

Tip #2 - Pair Down Your Makeup

Go through your makeup bag. One, because theres definitely liquids in there that need to be put in your liquids bag. Second, because I bet you 50% of what is in that bag you won't use on vacation. Mostly because you're gonna sweat it off anyway, so why give up the extra clothing room. I usually take travel size primer, foundation, concealer, face palette (this one has everything you'll need), mascara, eyeliner, and travel size setting spray. It will be all you need, your bronzer and highlighter double as eyeshadow so no need to bring that huge eyeshadow palette that you use 2 colors out of.

Tip #3 - Don't Think "What If"

Don't listen to your "but what if.." voice. Sounds simple right? Not when you are going through your closet thinking of every possible scenario you could stumble upon on your spring break. This is where people fall into the trap of over packing. They think up a scenario in there head where that dress would look so perfect, and what if I don't pack it, I'll be so mad at myself!!! But, really if you are having the best time of your life will you be thinking about the dress you didn't pack? This leads me to my next tip...

Tip #4 - Pick Versatile Pieces

Bring clothes that can be mixed and matched together. I'm not saying you entire suitcase has to look like this, but if you follow the packing list and have 2 shorts, 1 pant, 3 tops that's 9 outfits. Then you can add in a couple more unique pieces you'll only wear once and you don't feel like you're missing out on bringing what you want to wear!

Tip #5 - Follow My Packing List

Don't bring more than what I have on this list. I'm going on vacation for 7 days and this is what I'm bringing. I have pieces for the beach and dinner out. If you think you need more you probably don't and won't even remember you thought of bringing it anyway. When it doubt don't bring it!

Thanks for reading, let me know if you think these tips were helpful!

Eating my way through NYC: The Clocktower at the Edition

My favorite activity in NYC is eating...so I will be chronicling the many restaurants/spots I try out and sharing them with you all! Come along for the ride :)

Let me start this off by saying Gigi Hadid was there 2 days before me, I so close to accidentally running into her. The Clocktower at the New York City Edition is where Mike and I decided to do Valentine's day dinner! The restaurant is located inside of the Edition Hotel, so when you go inside you are on the first floor of the Edition, which is just the coziest place ever (great place for a drink to catch up with a friend).

To get to the restaurant, you have to go to the second floor. I recommend making a reservation on Open Table and showing up around 15 minutes area. This way you can have a drink at the bar and watch the mesmerizing bartender do his thing! There is also so much history at the restaurant as every wall is full of framed pictures of visitors, it is really a cool sight.

Eating my way through NYC: The Clock Tower

Now on the the food...how good does my burger look?! And it tasted as good as it looked! We also decided to start with appetizers (shown below) of west coast oysters and steak tar tar. I have to say I didn't care much for the steak tar tar, but the oysters were some of the best I've ever had! Mike ordered the Roasted Montauk sea bass which I tried and it was delicious! All and all this was such an amazing atmosphere and great food, perfect for a date night or a way to mark an anniversary.

Eating my way through NYC: The Clock Tower 3
Eating my way through NYC: The Clock Tower 2

But, to be honest the meals are pretty expensive (heres is the menu), so this is not a casual dining place for a weekday.

Hope you found my review helpful in planning where you want to eat while in New York, if you have any addition questions you can leave them in the comments below and I will answer!

Would love to know if you visit the restaurant <3
